Celebrate Chinese New Year at the Singapore Art Museum! Experience SAM and the #cineramaSG artworks in new and fun ways as we usher in the year of the Dog!

Look forward to a festive lion dance performance, family-friendly art and craft activities, and Chinese calligraphy demonstrations by calligraphy enthusiast Mr Malik Mazlan. All activities take place from 11am – 6pm.

Free admission for all.

Create a 3D pop-up house
Hourly sessions from 11 am to 6 pm
SAM at 8Q Workshop Space 1, Level 2
Create your own 3D pop-up shophouse, adorned with Chinese New Year decorations with like hanging lanterns or firecrackers!

Then go one step further and create a mini-video of your creation with the Boomerang app, capturing the subtle movements of the festive decorations, in the style of Cinerama artist Hayati Mohktar’s video installation, Falim House: Observations.

Suitable for participants 5 years old and above. Participants are encouraged register at the venue before the start of the next hour.

Make your own Chinese New Year shaker
11 am to 6 pm
SAM at 8Q Workshop Space 2, Level 2
Make some noise as you usher in the new year with your very own Chinese New Year shaker! Decorate your shaker with a variety of materials, from red packets to colourful ribbons.

Suitable for participants 5 years old and above.

Chinese calligraphy activity and demonstration
3 pm to 6 pm, demonstrations at 4 – 4:15 pm and 5 – 5:15 pm
SAM at 8Q, Plaza
Write your very own well wishes for the new year and enjoy Chinese calligraphy demonstrations by Mr Malik Mazlan! Malay by heritage and possessing great passion for Chinese calligraphy, he has been studying the art form for the past seven years and his works have been shown in various exhibitions. Don’t miss the chance to learn from him as he shares his passion and tips! .
