We kicked off the first leg of our 8D7N Guangzhou adventure with a 3D2N stay at Chimelong Panda Hotel. The Panda Hotel is one of three themed hotels in the Chimelong Resort and we chose it because it’s the newest and the most whimsical – think Disney-esque vibes but with pandas everywhere.

Ok, full honesty – I had mixed feelings about some of their bold colour choices. But you can’t deny the effort: the whole place is designed to bring happiness to guests, especially families with kids.

The welcome was warm. Staff greeted us enthusiastically and guided us smoothly through the check-in process. The foyer’s soaring ceilings, curved arches, and panda mascots wandering about immediately set the tone – playful and grand.

At the far end, floor-to-ceiling glass panels open up to a bird aviary, so you literally feel like you’ve stepped into a world of nature and animals.

Here’s a tip: we heard that those who arrived at 10 am had to queue up to an hour to check in. But when we reached at 11 am, it took us just 15 minutes!

We booked a 3D2N package through the Chimelong official website for about SGD 800 (Prince Family Room, 2 adults + 2 kids).

What’s included:

  • two adult tickets with unlimited entry to Chimelong Safari, Bird Park, and Chimelong Paradise
  • A 200 RMB meal voucher (usable at the food court)

We bought the children’s tickets separately, as à la carte worked out cheaper. For the water park, there was even a “kids enter free with every paying adult” promo – so always check what’s available before booking.

But here’s where I face-palmed: we later realised that Trip.com had the same package for almost half the price. Learn from my mistake and shop around before committing!

The Room – Prince Family Room

The 36 sqm room was spacious enough for our family of four.

The bed was larger than a king – big enough for all of us to snuggle comfortably – with pillows of varying thickness (great for picky sleepers like me).

There was even an extra “crib”: a super cute chicken-shaped sheltered bed for kids under 130cm. Everywhere you looked, the panda theme was thoughtfully carried through – from hand-painted ceilings and walls to panda-shaped toiletries, cups, and comics.

We especially appreciated the child-friendly details:

  • Step stools at the sink
  • Shower gel/shampoo at different heights for adults and kids
  • Child-sized toilet pan
  • A sanitising machine in the room

The small souvenirs like panda comics and keychains were a sweet touch too – little things that made the stay memorable.

Food & Dining

Beyond the rooms, the resort is a panda lover’s paradise. Shops sold everything from panda plushies to Crocs wear for the waterpark.

But the highlight for us was the food!

Food Street

Food Street

Food Street is a mix of independent outlets serving Japanese food, Cantonese dim sum, and even a kids’ bakery with the cutest panda-themed desserts. There’s also a ball pit and play structure for kids right beside the dining area – genius.

Meals cost about SGD 10–20 per person, and portions were so generous we often over-ordered. Kids’ meals were especially impressive: over-the-top cute, but also filling and worth every cent.

Buffets are available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The spread was wide, with local Canton specialties and international dishes.

Bonus: there’s a kids’ activity zone with story-telling sessions, magic shows, and appearances from the panda mascot.

The pricing was

  • Dinner ~SGD 35/adult, ~SGD 17.50/child
  • Breakfast ~SGD 20/adult, ~SGD 10/child

Getting Around the Chimelong Resort

The Chimelong Resort is huge, so the free shuttle buses are a must. They connect you to the Safari, Paradise, Bird Park, and Water Park. There’s also a paid two-hour bus that takes guests all the way to Zhuhai Chimelong Ocean Kingdom.

Our 3D Itinerary at the Chimelong Resort

Day 1

Our 3D Itinerary at the Chimelong Resort
Image: boaysontheloose
  • AM: Check-in at Chimelong Panda Hotel, Panyu Avenue, Chimelong Tourist Resort, Panyu District, Guangzhou, Guangdong, China
  • PM: Lunch + Chimelong Safari (closes at 6pm)

Tip: Use the Didi app for airport transfers. We made the rookie mistake of taking an airport cab and got overcharged (SGD 120!).

Day 2

Day 2 at the Chimelong Resort
Image: boaysontheloose
  • AM: Chimelong Water Park
  • PM: Bird Park (note: a 30-min shuttle ride away; plan enough time)
  • Night: Chimelong International Circus – a pulsating, world-class performance with gravity-defying stunts. Kids and adults loved it. Tickets ~SGD 60/pax. Conveniently, it’s within walking distance from Panda Hotel.

Day 3

  • AM/PM: We could have gone to Chimelong Paradise, but most of the rides seemed a little too extreme and age-inappropriate for the BoAys at this stage. Instead, we happily skipped the rollercoasters and spent the day shopping at Xiongfeng City Hall – a sprawling mall with Walmart, specialty kids’ shops, and indoor amusement areas. Great for last-minute buys before heading home.

Chimelong Resort Review: Final Thoughts

Final Thoughts
Image: boaysontheloose

Our 3D2N at Panda Hotel was nothing short of magical – equal parts whimsical, comfortable, and family-friendly.

Yes, it’s a little touristy, but the panda-mo-nium theme and thoughtful touches for kids really made it special.

If you’re visiting Guangzhou with family, this should be high on your list. Just remember my golden tip: book smartly (Trip.com may be cheaper!) and always check for promos.

Stay tuned for the next part of our review: the Water Park, Safari, Bird Park, and Chimelong International Circus.
