Car-Free Weekend October 2019 returns to the Civic District and Telok Ayer Street from 25 to 27 October 2019. During the three-day event, several streets will be closed off for a celebration of Singapore’s heritage and a car-lite lifestyle.

Here are some highlights of Car-Free Weekend October 2019.

Car-Free Weekend October 2019 (25 to 27 October)

1. Local Heroes at Telok Ayer – Food and Art Market

The Local People will be presenting Local Heroes at Telok Ayer – Food and Art Market. This three-day event will highlight local culture through an art market, installations and activities around the Telok Ayer district.

Sign up for workshops to learn block printing or DIY Merlion Plush making (26 October). Witness the Singapore Book of Records attempt by Nagore Dargah Indian Muslim Heritage Centre to create the longest spice line. Also, learn about the role of spices in our lives (26 October).

Go on guided tours of Thian Hock Keng Temple (25, 26 and 27 October) and Nagore Dargah Indian Muslim Heritage Centre (26, 27 October).

Enjoy old school games like chapteh, tic-tac-toe and five stones on Saturday, 26 October, along with heritage trishaw rides around Telok Ayer in the evening of the same day.

The Singapore Really Really Free Market will be at Amoy Street from 8 am to 12 pm on Sunday, 27 October 2019. Head down and get into the spirit of sharing!

2. Parks Festival at Car-Free Weekend October 2019

At the Civic District, the Parks Festival will be back with activities across Esplanade Park, Connaught Drive and Empress Lawn on 26 and 27 October 2019 as part of Car-Free Weekend October 2019.

NParks Concert Series in the Park: Rockestra will feature hits from the 2000s.

Families can look forward to a Kids’ Play Zone at the Parks Festival. Let the kids go wild at an outdoor ball pit and inflatable play area. Children can also enjoy unstructured play at the ActiveSG Imagination Playground.

Those with fur babies can bring their pets for pet health checks by the Animal & Veterinary Service or let them lose on a dog obstacle course.

3. Move Happy Cycling Festival

Land Transport Authority is also organising the Move Happy Cycling Festival on the morning of 27 October 2019. This takes advantage of the 5.5 km car free route from the Civic District to the Telok Ayer conservation area. Cyclist participants can go on a 5 km Treasure Hunt, play bicycle-themed games and test their two-wheeled skills on circuits. There will be bikes available for rent.
