Concerts for Children: Journey Around the World by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO), originally scheduled for 21 and 22 March 2020, has been cancelled. This is the result of travel restrictions affecting the concert’s conductor Jessica Gethin. The cancellations affect all four performances of Concerts for Children at the Victoria Concert Hall.

Concerts for Children Cancelled

Jessica said: “It is with deep regret that I announce I am unable to conduct this weekend’s Singapore Symphony Orchestra’s Concerts for Children: Journey Around the World, due to travel advice from the Australian government related to the unprecedented events of COVID-19.”

She added, “This beautiful concert lies close to my heart as it unites us all across the globe through the universal language of music, something we need now more than ever. I look forward to being able to return to Singapore to join the wonderful musicians from the Singapore Symphony Orchestra in the near future.”

Concerts for Children: Journey Around the World would have taken featured music from across the globe in an interactive performance with the audience influencing the order that the works were presented.

Tickets to be Refunded

Chng Hak-Peng, CEO of Singapore Symphony Group, said: “Our Concerts for Children are some of our most popular shows, so we can imagine the disappointment of the families and we seek their understanding in these extraordinary circumstances. We are now contacting all affected patrons who will be offered refunds. This is the first ticketed concert cancellation by the SSO due to the COVID-19 situation and we will continue to do our utmost to bring uplifting musical experiences to Singapore audiences.”

A full refund will be arranged for ticket holders. For payment via credit card, ticket holders will receive an automatic refund issued by SISTIC. For payment via cash/NETS, SISTIC will be in touch with ticket holders on how to obtain the refund.

Adjustments Being Made to Meet New Social Distancing Measures

Ticket sales to all SSO concerts have been temporarily halted, while the orchestra adjusts all future concerts to meet new social distancing measures, including maximum capacity of 250 patrons and spaced-out seating. Affected patrons will be contacted over the coming days.

Upcoming SSO concerts for families include the free SSO Mother’s Day Concert at Singapore Botanic Gardens on 10 May, the SSO Babies’ Proms on 23 and 24 May and The Composer and the Mouse in June.
