In the spirit of uniting people from all corners of the globe through the universal language of jazz, join the Jazz Association (Singapore) (JASS), and its youth orchestra, JassYO!, in a rousing concert at Esplanade’s Jazz in July.

JassYO! will be playing under the direction of JASS Music Director Jeremy Monteiro, with the support of Associate Music Director Weixiang Tan. The concert embodies a celebration of jazz music across history and cultures, with a repertoire comprising swinging jazz standards including the Duke Ellington standard Take the ‘A’ Train and Miles Davis’ Seven Steps to Heaven, original compositions by Singapore jazz composers such as Orchard Road by Jeremy Monteiro and Ernie Watts, and Blues for AB by Kerong Chok, as well as newly commissioned jazzy arrangements of the beloved melodies of Singapore and her neighbours including Tom Kubis’ arrangement of the traditional folk song Rasa Sayang, and a sublime arrangement by Kerong Chok of the beloved Malay ballad Getaran Jiwa by P Ramlee.

The concert will also feature special guest appearances by the “Godfather of Singapore Jazz,” Louis Soliano, and versatile crooner Rudy Djoe. Soliano will sing a couple of jazz standards, including the classic All of Me, while Djoe will lend his silky vocals to Getaran Jiwa and Indonesia’s most famous ballad, Bengawan Solo.

Sit back and let the universal language of jazz lift your spirit and stir your soul.
