The ArtScience Laboratory is a dynamic, dedicated space located on Basement 2 of the ArtScience Museum.

Offering a range of engaging workshops and interactive experiences, this hub brings together the principles of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM).

Gone are the days of traditional classroom learning — at the ArtScience Laboratory, children can experiment, explore, and create in a fun and inspiring environment.

Designed to promote a holistic approach to learning, the ArtScience Laboratory blends advanced digital technologies with practical activities.

From exploring the science of light and colour to experimenting with AI and engineering concepts, this space provides endless opportunities for children to unleash their creativity and develop valuable skills.

Exciting Zones for Interactive Learning

Exciting Zones for Interactive Learning

To enhance the learning experience, the ArtScience Laboratory is divided into three distinct zones:

  1. The Launch Pad – This zone serves as the starting point for children to engage in interdisciplinary activities that blend art and science in creative ways.
  2. The Media Lab – Featuring a massive 13-metre projection wall, the Media Lab allows children to explore digital learning experiences.
  3. The Ripple Room – A calm, focused environment perfect for in-depth workshops and hands-on learning.

Cubebot

Adding to the excitement is Cubebot, a unique twist on the classic wooden puzzle toy. This interactive creation can be shaped into different poses or used as modular seating, reinforcing the idea that learning and play go hand in hand.

Five Themed Programme Strands at the ArtScience Laboratory

The ArtScience Laboratory offers a diverse range of activities tailored to different interests and age groups.

These programmes are organised into five key themes:

1. Inspired By

Inspired By

The “Inspired By” series introduces children to the work of Art-Scientists, who use art to explain scientific ideas. Activities include experimenting with light and colour, inspired by Olafur Eliasson’s work, and exploring motion by building simple machines based on Theo Jansen’s kinetic sculptures.

2. Scientific Sparks

Scientific Sparks

The “Scientific Sparks” programme teaches children about science in a fun, hands-on way. From interactive games to building models of subatomic particles using LEGO, kids will learn about complex ideas like particle physics in an engaging and approachable way.

3. Creative Constructs

Creative Constructs

In the “Creative Constructs” programme, children can develop practical skills through creative activities. They can create 3D digital sculptures, learn basic sewing skills, and even make eco-friendly bags from recycled materials—all while exploring sustainability.

4. Environmental Empathy

Environmental Empathy

At the ArtScience Laboratory, children are encouraged to think about sustainability and the environment. Activities like the “We Are Nature Too” nature art trail help children appreciate the natural world, while the “Sustainability in Design” programme teaches them about eco-friendly design practices.

5. The Art of Being Calm

The Art of Being Calm

The “Art of Being Calm” programme focuses on mindfulness and well-being. Kids can start journaling as a way to reflect on gratitude, while also having the opportunity to unwind and relax with Cubebot while enjoying the floating lily pads on the ceiling.
