Arts in Your Neighbourhood (AYN) is back 7 – 24 March with more than 50 arts activities happening in 16 locations across the island.
There is something suitable for everyone!

The Arts in Your Neighbourhood programme, an initiative by the National Arts Council, brings enriching arts experiences right to your doorstep! Enjoy interactive arts programmes by established artists and arts groups held at various spaces across the island, including immersive and engaging programmes in our featured town of Tampines this season.

Music on the Move by Ding Yi Music Company

Carpark at Block 872A, Tampines Street 86 – 17 Mar, 5pm – 7:30pm

Look out for a musical truck around Tampines, with a pop-up stage and vibrant music performances! These music performances will be featuring new compositions by young and old residents of Tampines, inspired by a trip around the neighbourhood led by a historian and composer.

Tampines Round Market – 16 and 17 March, 12pm

Rediscover stories of hawkers and market stall owners of a pasar bulat (wet market), its legacy, and its relevance in today’s age of supermarkets. This interactive contemporary dance performance is set against the backdrop of the Tampines Round Market, and takes inspiration from stories of residents who recount how life in erstwhile Tampines used to be.

Immerse yourself in the sounds of Tampines at this unexpected pop-up music stage!

Enjoy live music performances by local artists, featuring tracks made from recordings of various sounds and stories in the town. Spoken words are playfully remixed and re-told, sounds of Tampines’ heartlands and nature are sampled, reworked and abstracted, and the landscape and its residents’ stories are weaved into audio compositions.

Join in a variety of fringe activities, including tote bag screen printing, street art, and lyric writing workshops.

( , ) Sense: Tampines is a public art project that injects a sense of humour and play into the experience of the everyday, through fun and interactive contemporary art.

The project presents 5 new site-specific artworks that offer creative and illuminating interpretations of everyday actions such as cycling, sitting down, playing a game of chance, switching lights on/off, and exchanging emoji expressions. Viewers are encouraged to engage and collaborate with others around them when interacting with the artworks.

Curated by Dr Wang Ruobing, the artists presenting the works are Tatwatchai Puntusawasdi, Joey.Spl, Kray Chen, Sai, and Pok Chong Boon.

The Acoustic Transformers is a group of five musicians who interpret varying musical styles such as reggae, calypso and salsa with a unique twist! Featuring covers as well as original music, the band uses instruments made from recycled materials and other quirky objects.

Come experience the “tubatong”, played with flip flops, or the “piti pa” which produces sounds made by stainless steel dishes. Be prepared for a surprising new orchestral experience!

Bringing together short stories written by Mandopop lyricist, Xiaohan, with music arrangements by local leading musician, Julian Wong, this mini-musical will enchant you with captivating stories and memorable tunes such as Where’s My Friend, The Song of
Youth and many others. Look forward to this fun and engaging reinvention of classic children’s nursery rhymes!

Gather the whole family and come on down early for fun interactive activities!

 

Moving Stories by O School
Tampines Regional Library – 16 & 17 Mar, 3pm

Transform an ordinary visit to the library into an immersive storytelling experience! Watch the story come to life right in front of your eyes through dance. Bring the entire family down to Tampines Regional Library for a story-time that will get both you and your little ones moving.

Charlotte is a curious time traveller on her way to witness the arrival of Sir Stamford Raffles in 1819 Singapore. However, due to her malfunctioning time machine, she ends up on a musical adventure across different time periods, encountering everything from classic tunes by Mozart to familiar soundtracks from the Bugs Bunny cartoons.

Expect a bubbly good time with 3 time-traveling operatic singers and a hat-changing music ensemble. Young audiences will be roped in to help perform on stage, while adults can expect to be surprised by their own knowledge of opera!

Witness various traditional and pop songs presented by an orchestra with a youthful twist! Featuring beatboxer and Singapore Idol finalist Stitch FM – The Human Radio (Charles “Stitch” Wong), as well as YES 933 DJ and Campus Superstar Top 20 finalist Gao Mei Gui, this concert programme is a unique experience for all to enjoy
