There’s something timeless about high tea for two. It is a chance to enjoy a meal together at an unhurried pace and the pleasure of sharing delicate bites across a beautifully arranged table. And this is what Violet Oon Singapore at ION Orchard offers with an elegant high tea experience, with a special menu in conjunction with International Women’s Day, from now till 8 March 2026.
The Violet Oon High Tea swops out the usual scones and finger sandwiches for vibrant Peranakan and local flavours, a celebration of heritage in an elegant setting.
Violet Oon High Tea Set
The high tea set comes in a three-tiered dish stand, laden with colourful savoury and sweet selections inspired by Peranakan cuisine.
Each tier holds a different layer of flavour, texture and tradition. It beckons diners to slow down and savour every bite.
Savoury Items in the High Tea Set
We started with the savoury selections which were full of bold, aromatic flavours.
The Dry Laksa came in a decently sized portion with the rich laksa gravy balanced off with prawns, bean sprouts and tau pok.
Next, we had Kueh Pie Tee. The petite cups were filled with savoury turnip poached in a prawn bisque and topped with a prawn. There was also Chilli Crab in a Crispy Shell, which had a light kick of spice to it.
The Tau Hu Goreng came with julienned cucumber and crunchy fresh beansprouts. We enjoyed the dark and sweet peanut sauce that dressed it.
The stand out amongst the savoury selection was the Coronation Chicken in Wantan Leaf Cup. The diced chicken and fragrant curry sauce, paired with the crisp fried wantan, made this a satisfying bite.
Sweet Selection
The sweet treats provide a delightful contrast to the savoury selection. The Roti Jala – a pretty lace crepe – was served with the warm banana coconut cream with a hit of Gula Melaka, making for sweet mouthfuls of flavour.
Rum balls are getting harder to find in Singapore nowadays. The ones served at the Violet Oon high tea were extremely rich and fudgy.
Unsurprisingly, the rest of the sweet selection featured nyonya kuehs. These included a vibrant ang ku kueh with sweet mung bean filling, chewy kueh kochi with grated coconut and palm sugar filling. The kueh kosui was covered with grated coconut for a crunch to complement the pandan infused rice cake.
For us, the stand out item was the bika ambon. Not only did the the honeycomb cake come topped with a bit of gold foil but it also sang with the flavours of lemongrass and kaffir lime leaves.
Accompanying the three-tiered spread is a pot of tea. Choose from a tea selection that includes Nanyang Breakfast Tea, Pandan Earl Grey Tea, Ice Kachang Tea and others.
