Sampanman Kelong brings to west-siders the same Southeast Asian flavours that had delighted avid seafood lovers at its first its flagship outlet in Jewel Changi Airport.
Signature dishes such as Assorted Sampan come in different portion sizes to cater to various group numbers, from the XXL Fisherman Sampan ($248) to the smaller Kelong Sampan ($55).
The XXL Fisherman Sampan comprised of Sri Lankan crab, lobster, prawns, flower clams, mussels, scallop, and a choice of sauce that provides sumptuous portions for large-sized groups.
We tasted the Jurong Point-exclusive Kelong Charcoal Grilled Kicap Manis Small Sampan with the Grilled Shellfish Sampan option ($39). The sampan is served with grilled flower clams, tiger prawns, half shell scallops with sambal matah. If you like fresh seafood with a mix of light spiciness, this dish would be an appealing go-to choice.
Diners could choose to customise their sampan sets, by adding tingkat tiers at an additional cost. We chose the stir-fried sweet potato leaves, blue pea rice and Nanyang chicken curry tingkat tiers. The seafood medley was portioned for two persons, and by the time we had the chendol, our hearts and stomachs were equally full.
We also tried the peanut butter kelong toast ($2.90), available until 5 pm daily. The creaminess of the peanut butter was not overwhelming, and in fact comforting, bringing waves of nostalgia.
Chendol-making was a fun family activity that led to lots of laughter ringing in the restaurant as diners attempted to build their own chendols and picked their favourite old school snacks to wrap the meal.
Afternoon High Tea Dipped in Heritage
Available daily from 11am to 5pm, the Afternoon Tingkat Sets offer local delights such as Curry Toast ($6.90) and handcrafted Soon Kueh ($4.30), bringing a whiff of heritage to the table.
For the Jurong Point outlet, sweet tooths can not only look forward to colourful bites like Ang Ku Kueh Coconut ($3.90) and Kueh Salat ($4.60), and also enjoy the outlet-exclusive Putu Piring with Gula Melaka ($3.50) or Brown Coconut ($4).
Student Meal Deals
The restaurant offers student meals starting from $8.90 for delicious dishes such as Fish & Chips and Chicken Cutlet & Chips, and Clam & Scallop Macaroni ($9.90).
