Inspired by Peranakan shophouses being vibrant expressions of culture and community, the LEGO Shophouse Experience uses iconic LEGO bricks to bring the familiarity of the Singaporean home to life.
To me, it was like stepping into a dream home blending the playful characteristics of LEGO with Peranakan design elements cleverly fused.
Highlights of the LEGO Shophouse Experience
Open from 11 am to 9 pm daily, the one-of-a-kind pop-up transforms Design Orchard into an immersive showcase where heritage, imagination, and play converge.
The LEGO Shophouse Experience is just like a typical Singapore apartment.
Beginning from the main door with a signage above bearing the Chinese characters of LEGO, visitors will enter a foyer with a stunning Peranakan brick tile wall crafted from LEGO bricks. Don’t forget a family photo here!
The space is also decorated with many details from LEGO builds of ornaments, vintage accessories to works of art – from typewriters, paintings, pets and even a retro coin telephone we used many years ago.
You might forget that they aren’t selling any property at this “showflat”, a LEGO-built Peranakan-inspired apartment could be an idea for developers in future!
Head over to the lively dining space where there are vintage displays peppered with LEGO-built modern inventions like a Nespresso machine. The contrasts of a vintage sewing machine and a retro radio with gadgets all made of LEGO livens up the space with both heritage and modern living needs.
Spot the cats at their scratching posts too.
The coffee table at the living room will catch one’s eye as it contains a diorama of a hawker centre – central to Singapore’s food culture.
Past the dining room is the cosy kids’ room. Of course there is LEGO to play and build besides LEGO collections to check out.
The next room will surely be any guy’s desired man cave. With walls adorned by light sabers and LEGO Star Wars, race cars and Ninjago displays, the futuristic retreat would appeal to those who love speed and stories of justice.
Must-do Activity: Complete a Postcard
Don’t forget to participate in the stamp rally!
Journey through the space and complete your postcard at stamping stations at the shophouse. Then redeem your keepsake!
From Mondays to Fridays, redeem a Retro LEGO Boombox or LEGO Peranakan Mosaic Tile on Saturdays and Sundays while stocks last. Redemption is at the LEGO store pop-up right outside Mandarin Gallery, across the road from Design Orchard.
I love my LEGO Peranakan Mosaic Tile!
Sign up for LEGO® Insiders onsite and receive a LEGO® Insiders brick-based reward, such as the Grey Castle Set, Retro Tape Player, or Baby Gorilla Encounter.
Last but not least, try guessing the number of tiles that went into building the Peranakan-inspired LEGO brick tile wall and five lucky winners will receive a LEGO set at the end of the pop-up.
