We all know that Japan has many unique features and quirks. These range from capsule hotels to unique dining experiences. One food court in Japan has also come up with some unique seating that parents with babies would appreciate.

Seat for Baby INSIDE the Counter

The Terrace Mall is located in Matsudo City, Chiba Prefecture. Like many large shopping malls, it has a food court where hungry shoppers can get something to eat. The “Keya Kitchen” food court is located on the third floor and has about 750 seats.

What is remarkable about it is that in addition to the tatami mat spaces that parents and children can use, it also has counter-type seats were babies can be seated in a high chair fitted inside the counter, facing outwards to their parents. Alternatively, the seats can be positioned to face sideways towards the attending parent.

This makes plenty of sense for parents as it makes it so much easier to feed the babies.

These type of seats aren’t new. They have been available at Japan’s Terrace Mall since at least November 2019. We wish that such thoughtful design ideas could also catch on overseas.

Recently, one mom, Twitter user Hazuki, who has a one-year-old daughter took a picture of her daughter using the seats. She gushed about how happy she was to use the seat and shared her hope that more of such seats would be available elsewhere. Her tweet garnered more than 90,000 likes.

It’s just another example of how things are done differently in Japan.
