Delight In Da Dong’s Authentic Flavours At Tanglin Cookhouse
The collaboration between Tanglin Cookhouse and Da Dong Prawn Noodles is an exciting partnership as these two second-generation run businesses that focus on heritage and authentic flavours tie up for the first time.
A Taste of Heritage

Known for its flavourful broth, Da Dong Prawn Noodles has been a prawn noodle favourite in the Joo Chiat neighbourhood for almost 60 years.
Each bowl of noodles is served with their signature broth that has been simmered for hours with fresh prawns, pork ribs, and a secret blend of herbs and seasoning.
Watson Lim, who has since 2018 taken over the coffeeshop stall that his father started, starts his workday at 4:30 a.m. every morning to ensure he is ready to serve by 7:30 a.m.
He is committed to maintaining his father’s work ethic, focusing on keeping flavors authentic and not compromising on quality over business expansion.
This is also why there are only 20 sets daily at each Tanglin Cookhouse outlet.
A Partnership of Authentic Local Flavours
Bonnie Wong, CEO of Tanglin Cookhouse, said that her father started Tanglin Cookhouse with similar values.
“My father opened Tanglin Cookhouse to serve authentic British-Singaporean food that locals would enjoy and identify with,” she said.
Singaporeans often love sharing great food finds, and, having heard and tried Da Dong, Bonnie wanted to do so through this partnership.
Watson also shared his motivation behind the collaboration, saying, “I want to share our flavours with more people outside of Katong, and working with (them) this way allows me to do just that.”
Asked if he had to wake up extra early to do this, he let out a smile.
Da Dong’s Quality assured
Although the Tanglin Cookhouse version adds house-made prawn balls to the bowl, Da Dong fans have assured that the flavours (especially the broth) taste the same.
In addition, Tanglin Cookhouse offers complements that are good sharing options, including its beer-battered Kang Kong and crispy fish skin chips with a refreshing ginger flower dressing that cuts out the grease in deep fried food; a selection of Wu Xiang (Five-spice fritters and rolls); and a lovely glass of sugarcane juice.
The restaurant is also a good idea to hide away from the long queues and the glaring sun at the Da Dong stall, but as mentioned, while stocks last.
Tanglin Cookhouse is located at Tanglin Mall and PLQ3 (Paya Lebar Quarter).
