The Slime are the original inhabitants of Artland. They have expressive eyes that let you know how they are feeling. Sharing Artland with the Slime are Blobbugs, similar looking but with bigger, bulging eyes.
Artland is dotted with Spocky Trees, the native flora of the islands. The sun is half coral pink and half jade blue while the rain glows when it falls at night. There is no government or monarchy but all the inhabitants respect one another and their home.
Artland Installation in the ArtScience Museum, Marina Bay Sands
First conceived by the artist’s daughters in 2016, Artland has arrived on our shores in 2025. Setup at the ArtScience Laboratory in the basement of ArtScience Museum, kids (and adults too) in Singapore can join in the world-building efforts at Artland and contribute their own whimsical characters to the eco-system.
For the Singapore installation, there are additional islands waiting to be populated. Participants can add on their own interpretations of flora and fauna that can exist in a realm made out of modelling clay.
Artland focuses attention on the diverse ecosystems and environments that can be found in nature.
It also provides room for kids to make use of their imagination and creativity to dream up an alternative world.
Artland at the ArtScience Museum in Singapore costs $6 per person and includes two tubs of clay for them to add their own creative to the world.
Parent-Child Workshops
There will also be parent-child workshops conducted that highlight the environmental themes of the installation and foster a sense of connection to nature.
In the Expressive Slimes: Discovering Emotions workshop, participants will learn how to identify expressions and emotions before they get to create their own Slime to join the others at Artland. This workshop is recommended for children ages 5 to 6.
The Exploring Ecosystems: Sculpting Artland workshops will take participants on an exploration of Artland and how different plants and creatures live in harmony. They will then get to sculpt their own creations to add to Artland. This workshop is recommended for children aged 7 to 12.
