Inside the Flower Dome, various iconic Swiss landmarks have been re-created. Amongs the highlights are the Fraumünster and St. Peter’s Church in Zürich, which is well-known for having the biggest clock face in Europe.
Welcomed by the Matterhorn
When you first step into the Flower Dome, you will be greeted by a mock-up of the Matterhorn.
In addition to posing in front of the re-creation of the Matterhorn, the most photographed mountain in the world, you can also board the golden cabin of the Gornergrat Railway. This was the first completely electrified cogwheel line in history!
Begonias at the Flower Field, Gardens by the Bay
At the Flower Field, the Alpine Adventure continues with begonias brightening up the vista.
Admire recreations of Zurich’s historic church towers, from Fraumünster to St. Peter’s with the largest clock face in Europe.
Look out for cultural elements such as traditional Swiss papercutting, found within a wooden hut. Also on display alongside the papercutting is the alphorn, a long wooden instrument that is symbolic of the Alps.
Step into a mock up of the Glacier Express, a train that is sometimes referred to be the slowest yet most picturesque train trip in the world.
In another hut, you can get a whiff of the alpine scents from various olfactory jars.
Another highlight is a reimagined three-metre-wide Flower Clock with almost 1,000 begonias in red, pink, and yellow, complete with real working hands in Flower Dome. The Flower Clock in Geneva was created in 1955 and the landmark is also known as Geneva’s “Botanical Timekeeper”.
Flowers on Display
Amongst the flowers that are on display at Alpine Adventures at Gardens by the Bay is the snapdragon. The flower gets its name from the interesting trait where the base of the bloom would snap open and shut like a dragon’s mouth.
Admire the snapdragons with their tall and upright spikes with numerous blooms arranged in a staggered pattern.
Other flowers include spiderflowers which are known for their airy, spidery flower clusters. These are typically found with a combination of white, pale pink, and dark pink flowers.
Another flower to look out for are chamomiles. These are tiny white daisies with a sun-yellow centre and a mild, apple-honey fragrance.
