Stepping into Xita Lao Tai Tai restaurant, we couldn’t help but feel a sense of “wow”. Perhaps it was the dramatic decor, large dining hall (accommodates 120 guests, with two private rooms accommodating six to eight people each) or the modern and hi-tech looking BBQ stove at the table.
Ranked as China’s number 1 BBQ chain by the China Restaurant Industry Awards 2025, the brand is now in Singapore, which is also its first Southeast Asian outlet.
The “wow” factor continued when the huge array of meat dishes were presented at the table, a glimpse of Xita Lao Tai Tai’s extensive menu.

Xita Lao Tai Tai: From Shenyang to Singapore
If your impression is that Xita Lao Tai Tai looks like Korean BBQ, that’s because it can trace its roots back to a humble pushcart that was run by a Korean lady in the city of Xita in Shenyang, a city in Northern China that has links with Korean merchants stretching back to the 1950s.
Xita Lao Tai Tai makes use of a special clay stove, which can be heated higher than a normal stove using charcoal. This high temperature imparts a distinct and stronger smoky, charred flavour to the meat.
The meats at Xita Lao Tai Tai are marinated with over 28 unique house-made marinades dreamed up by its founder and culinary team.
We were looking forward to trying out the various specialities.
Xita Lao Tai Tai Food Review
One of the specialities at Xita Lao Tai Tai is the Pineapple Glazed Beef Rib Finger (150g, $34.90, Members $29.90). The flavourful meat was marinated in pineapple to make them extra tender.
Our server helped us to grill the meat and the pineapple on top of the stove.
The meat was juicy and, eaten together with the pineapple and wrapped in lettuce, had a sweetness to it with a bit of tartness.
Another cut of meat that we’d recommend is the Special Marinated Beef Rib Finger (140g, $33.90, Members $26.90). This makes use of the same juicy cut of beef as the Pineapple Glazed Beef Rib Finger. This came marinated in the founder’s authentic sweet-and-savoury Korean marinade and was an instant hit at the table.
The Xita Fatty Beef Short Plate (130g, $27.90, Members $20.90) is specially marinated in-house using the natural sweetness of apples.
The fat gets the flames flaring up and the meat sizzling away, creating a glistening and satisfying bite.
Other cuts of beef that we tried included the Sliced Beef Chuck and Flagship Feather Blade Steak which was a large cut of beef that cooked quickly on the grill.
Other Meat Options
For more variety, Xita Lao Tai Tai also offers cuts of pork.
The Thick Cut Pork Belly (150g, $28.90, Members $24.90) is a decadent piece of meat was deliciously fatty and had a pop of flavour that was released when we bit into it.
We also tried the Xita Lao Tai Tai’s Special Marinated Pork Collar (140g, $35.90, Members $30.90) but it was a little too dry on its own for our taste.
However, there are different sauce options to accompany meats. The stand out is Xita Lao Tai Tai’s Signature Sesame Sauce which is made with 10 different ingredients and mixed with onions, coriander and more to create a creamy sauce you can dip the meats into.
This goes especially well with the Xita Fatty Beef Short Plate, Xita Speciality Sliced Beef Chuck, and Special Marinated Beef Rib Finger.
Mains and More
To accompany the meats, you can also enjoy free-flow side dishes or banchan/xiao cai. The dishes available include kimchi, mashed potato, pumpkin porridge, tofu skin and more.
Other dishes available include the refreshing Cold Buckwheat Noodles ($16.90, Members $13.90), a nice counterpoint to the grilled meats, and appetisers like the Cold Dressed Chicken ($12.90, Members $9.90).
The Xita Soy Fried Chicken Wings (3pc, $12.90, Members $9.90) was well-flavoured and tender inside.
For dessert, there is the Strawberry Ice Burst ($9.90, Members $6.90), a fruity treat where the flavoured shaved ice is topped with real fruit.
Beverages available include Slushies ($7.50) in lime or grape as well as Squash ($6.50) in variants that include pineapple, green apple, lychee, grape and strawberry. Or you can also order a Korean Yuzu Tea (Hot: $4.80, Cold: $5.80).
