If you’ve ever dreamt of stepping into a cloud with a fork in one hand and your favourite Sanrio character beside you, a visit to the Wong Fu Fu’s Cinnamoroll Cafe pop-up in Singapore would definitely help you fulfil your dream.

This halal-certified Taiwanese café along North Bridge Road is no stranger to themed collaborations, having “hosted” Crayon Shinchan and Miffy in the past, and has now been transformed into a dreamy abode for Sanrio’s beloved puppy Cinnamoroll.

A fun tidbit: Cinnamoroll is one of Sanrio’s most popular character, having ranked #1 seven times in the last decade, with devoted fan bases in Japan and Southeast Asia.

And with this latest pop-up cafe, Wong Fu Fu smartly leans into Cinnamoroll’s popularity — without sacrificing its culinary soul.

Bringing children who are fans of the character to the Cinnamoroll Café is definitely an experience to be had.

From ceiling danglers to posters splayed across the walls, to a small PlayNation stand with toys, to the themed food and drink, my child basked in much joy for this break after two days of exams.

Cinnamoroll Vibes: Sweet Skies and Soft Surroundings

The café’s front door invites any Sanrio fan in with its cute doors and windows. Upon entry, not only is the air-conditioned space a welcome pause from the sweltering heat outdoors, the café soaked in baby blue, soft whites, and Cinnamoroll’s signature cloud motifs instantly uplifts moods.

Cinnamoroll cushions line the seats, and pastel murals wrap around the walls. It’s charming but not overwhelming.

Wong Fu Fu sticks closely to its roots, offering modest, comforting Taiwanese-style meals with a Cinnamoroll “makeover”; it’s simple flavours presented with a sense of fun at very decent prices (~$20 for a main and ~$12 for a good-sized drink).

Grilled Salmon with Beetroot Cream Sauce

Grilled Salmon with Beetroot Cream Sauce

The well-cooked salmon sitting in a pale pink beetroot cream sauce is balanced with a salad and rice. Pick another main if cream sauces are too rich and heavy for your liking; my child wiped out the plate.

Bao Bun Burger

Bao Bun Burger

This dish steals the show, with the bun sticking to theme. The white bao bun is fluffy, warm, and definitely what Taiwanese meat buns are like, except it’s a burger. Biting into this cloud-soft bun, with a well-seasoned patty, cheese, lettuce, tomato, it was really enjoyable.

Whether you’re 8 or 38, this one might make you smile.

Sides & Desserts: Small Bites, Big Smiles

Tater totts

Next were tater tots and sweet potato balls that came in a Cinnamoroll box – a clever, simple way to dress up them up according to theme. This set of sides did not disappoint as the tater tots were cooked well, and the sweet potato balls were gone in a flash.

That said, these sweet potato balls cannot compare to the ones found in the Taiwanese night markets which are freshly fried and much more airy in bite, perhaps because they are much larger in size than the ones here.

Other sides included crispy wings, sweet potato fries, traditional potato fries, etc. which are typical Taiwanese street food that everyone would enjoy.

Hokkaido Milk Swiss Roll

The Hokkaido Milk Swiss Roll was a lovely end to the meal. With such a light, fluffy and delicate white cake and cream, the café definitely paid attention to making this according to theme.

Drinks that Delight the Eyes and Tastebuds

The drinks at Wong Fu Fu deserves its own spotlight.

Where many themed cafés overload drinks with sugar and toppings, I believe they have found a balance between staying to theme and quality drinks.

Drinks that Delight the Eyes and Tastebuds

Their Floaty Cloud Matcha Latte was an earthy, non-sweet drink that was perfect, save for a candy floss cloud that elevated the look but stuck on to the sides of the cup later.

My child loved the floss and I enjoyed the drink, so it was definitely a win-win combination. Bonus points for it looking super cute!

Other drink options included the trending strawberry matcha, lychee soda, etc that are bound to delight your hearts.

A Daydream Worth Having?

Drinks that Delight the Eyes and Tastebuds at the Cinnamoroll Cafe Singapore

Wong Fu Fu’s Cinnamoroll café isn’t about redefining food. It’s about bringing joy in a plate of rice, a bao bun, or a latte.

You should go for the character, the clouds, and Instagram shots (yes, absolute gimmicky), but the dishes and drinks were also truly fair value for money at the prices you pay, unlike several places where food quality usually disappoints greatly.

Definitely worth a visit before the pop-up ends in October!
