This year has been all about finding new ways of doing things. One organisation that is doing that is SPD. Instead of a physical Flag Day, this year it is conducting a virtual Flag Day donation drive to raise fund for people with disabilities.
SPD Virtual Flag Day 2020

SPD is a Singapore charity which has been helping people disabilities since 1964. Its work includes supporting children and youth with special needs through early intervention and educational support. SPD also supports people with disabilities through therapy services, assistive technology and training to find employment opportunities.
Due to COVID-19, there are more beneficiaries who are facing hardships. At the same time, there are fewer opportunities for the organisation to raise funds to support its programmes.
SPD is therefore holding a virtual Flag Day 2020 donation drive on Giving.sg with a target of $20,000.

How Donations Make a Difference
Donations of any amount are welcomed. However, here are some examples of how specific amounts can make a difference:
$50 can provide a day of care and functional training for a person with disability.
$100 can provide four days of specialised transport for a person with disability to access services at SPD.
$300 can provide four speech therapy sessions for a child to improve his or her communication.
$600 can help a child receive one week of early invention to support his or her development.
SPD eShop

Another way to support SPD is by purchasing a reuseable face mask from the SPD e-shop. Made from premium Japanese-inspired fabrics, the face masks are a collaboration between SPD volunteers and the Sheltered Workshop trainees.
The SPD face masks come in patterns such as White-Pink Sakura and Golden Crane. They are lined with a pocket for a filter and have adjustable ear bands. Each reusable mask costs for $15.

You can pair the masks with limited edition Japanese-inspired journals, available on the eShop, too.
Visit SPD’s fund raising page for more information and its eShop to purchase items.
