Brilliantly Designed RANSACK Chinatown Outdoor Mystery Game Kit
Firstly, I must say how well-designed the game kit was. It was really clever with every bit in it used for puzzle solving. Yes here’s a huge hint that you are going to be using every part of the game kit.
The game kit consists of one puzzle booklet, one puzzle tool, one map, one secret slip, one carrier and the prize! Besides the adorable designs and the mascot Pepper the dinosaur, the functional elements were amazing, paying tribute to local dishes, culture and heritage.
Our Experience as a Family with a Tween and Teen
We were a little apprehensive at first given how warm the weather was. But this worry was soon forgotten as the children quickly dived into puzzle solving mode.
My tween had some experience with RANSACK’s Marina Bay puzzle adventure, hence he was familiar with the game play.
My role was simply to take pictures and ensure they were on the right track. The friendly RANSACK team also gave us tips along the way since this was a hosted experience.
I liked how we were forced to look up and all around, noticing bits about the Chinatown architecture we might have overlooked. From statues to posters, murals and colours, all our senses were engaged as we figured out the puzzles. This brain teasing also took place mostly away from the screen apart from the need to key in answers into a mobile device. This was definitely a welcome activity for parent-child bonding.
After solving each puzzle, we were also rewarded with a popular dish stored in our inventory. This is equivalent to collecting tokens which might be an incentive to younger players. Do note that these are important in helping you solve the final puzzle!
Without giving too much away, we also had to figure out how to use various parts of the game kit, some light, and fine motor skills to help us solve the puzzles. It definitely forced us to think out of the box and learn to use the resources we were given strategically.
I must say that the game is perfect for families with older children, a group of friends and even intergenerational groups.
