What is this “lost and found” hawker we are referring to? It is the South Buona Vista Braised Duck. The store which made its name located at the shophouses at the base of the windy South Buona Vista Road is a well-known 50-year-old establishment. After it closed at South Buona Vista, it reopened at Sam Leong Road and then again at Desker Road in Little India in 2021 only to close again in early 2024.
Those who wish to seek it out and savour it tender braised duck, gently spiced with star anise, cloves, and cinnamon, can find it at the Punggol Coast Hawker Centre.

The menu features a selection of Thai-style wanton noodles.
Previously located at Ubi, the Signature Thai Style Char Siew Wanton Noodle ($7) at this store is highly popular and features tender slices of char siew and a generously sized wantons. It is no wonder that you can always expect a queue in front of the store.
SJ Sickander Ammal Muslim Foods (Halal)
Enjoy over 30 colourful, crispy, crunchy varieties to make your own Indian rojak. The stall also offers roti prata and murtabak.
The roti prata here will appeal to those who prefer the chewier type of prata instead of the crispy prata.
Yummy Delights
This stall serves Chinese-style nasi lemak and bee hood with a focus on “home-style cooking”.
Mama Fish Soup
The menu offers sliced fish, deep-fried fish and premium offerings like red grouper. Unlike the usual clear and milky soup base, Mama Fish Soup also has options including mala, tomato, spicy peppercorn, tomyum and pumpkin soup.
Xiang Chi Mian
This stall, with its bright signboard, sells bak chor mee, laksa and fishball noodles. Their laksa is made with a rich pork broth as the base to give each bowl a spicy and rich taste with a tinge of sweetness.
Whampoa Traditional Fried Oyster
The oyster omelette is fried to order until the crust is nicely browned, while the oysters remain plump and juicy. Pair this with the house-made chilli sauce. The stall also offers carrot cake and char kway teow.
Deen Mee Combo House (Halal)
Enjoy Indian stir-fry noodles like mee goreng and kway teow goreng ikan bilis from this stall. You can also try their tulang merah.
Hee Hee Hee Steamed Fish & Seafood
They are New Generation hawkers by night and fishmongers by day. They offer Hong Kong-style steamed seafood along with BBQ sambal seafood dishes.
The Steamed Grouper with Rice is priced at $10.70 for an entire fish. Served in a light broth along with shreds of ginger, it is a satisfying meal for those who would like something more delicate and light.
South Buona Vista Braised Duck
“Lost and found” 50-year-old institution serving braised duck. Be prepared for long queues.
It is also good to know that it is open from 11 am to 7 pm or until sold out. When we visited at around 6 pm on a weekday, it had already sold out. Take note that it is also closed on Wednesdays.
Claypot King
This stall offers claypot chicken rice, claypot pork rib rice and sesame oil chicken.
You Fu Ban Mian & Pao Fan
Enjoy bowls of handmade noodles featuring different ingredients and choice of noodles. The broth which is used for both handmade noodle and pao fan is cooked over a few hours for maximum umami.
Monster Chili Mala Hotpot (Halal)
Established in 2014, Monster Chilli is Singapore’s first halal certified Mala hotpot. Blending dry hotpot and spicy Sichuan cuisine, it delivers a unique combination of numbing,
spicy, fresh, and fragrant tastes and infuses traditional Chinese medicine herbs to add a cooling touch.
Hock Hai (Hong Lim) Curry Chicken Noodle
A Michelin Bib Gourmand winner in 2019 with its first outlet in Bedok Interchange Hawker
Centre.
We tried the medium Curry Chicken Noodle ($6.50) and we won over by the tender pieces of chicken in the bowl, accompanied by the deeply flavourful curry that made us want to finish the entire bowl.
The stall also sells satay bee hoon, a dish that is getting harder to find nowadays.
Hakka Leipopo
This stall specialises in Hakka thunder tea rice.
This dish features a variety of fresh vegetables like long beans, sayur manis, chye sim, cabbage as well as preserved radish, dried shrimps, firm tofu and peanuts. There is a set available that comes with three pieces of yong tau fu to complement the dish of greens.
Master Tang
You can pick up a hearty bowl of double boiled soup packed with quality ingredients and no added MSG.
12 Roasted
This stall is known for their roasts such as char siew and sio bak – complete with crunchy crackling, moist meat and melt-in-your-mouth fats.
Chang Cheng
This mixed rice stall, tucked away at one of the corners, is participating in the Rice Garden Community Project and offers concessionary meals which consist of 2 selected vegetables and 1 meat. Available for Comcare Cardholders: $1.50 and PG/ MG/ CHAS Blue/ NTUC Union Members: $2.70.
Swee Pork Ribs Prawn Noodle
Enjoy prawn noodles made with freshly sourced prawns and stock that is boiled for hours.
Chicky Papa
A Western food concept that offers a wide selection of Western food including
pastas, whole fried spring chicken, chicken cutlet and black pepper chicken chop.
Ubi Le Sheng Yong Tau Fu
This stall features a clean and lighter broth and has a wide selection of classic yong tau foo ingredients.
Cinta Hainanese Chicken Rice (Halal)

Jade’s Chicken (Halal)
This authentic Korean-owned stall sells Korean fried chicken, jjajangmyeon and army stew.
The fried chicken comes in half or whole and customers can ask for original crispy, sweet spicy, soy sauce, or honey butter.

75 Ah Balling
Founded in 1947, 75 Ah Balling Peanut Soup’s story began when the founder started selling glutinous rice balls from a humble pushcart along Jalan Sultan before moving to Golden Mile Food Centre in 1975.
Black & White Rojak and Popiah
The stall sells rojak in both sour plum sauce (white) and prawn paste (black). Also on the menu are popiah, tauhu bakar and kueh pie tee. This is another stall where you can expect long queues.
