Designed to be a hoot, the Kim Keat Ripples playground features an owl-themed playground along with additional play areas that kids can enjoy.

All the way back in 2020, a barn owl was sighted in Toa Payoh, causing a bit of a commotion amongst bird watchers. Now, there is larger-than-life owl in the form of a playground perched at Kim Keat Ripples at Toa Payoh East, offering a chance for kids to play and explore.

get into the owl's body

There are two ways to get into the owl’s body – either through a short flight of stairs or via a ramp.

Even though the owl looks like it could be a two-storey structure, inside, it is actually just a single level that leads to the other parts of the playground.

netted bridge

The other parts of the owl playground structure can be reached by crossing a netted bridge.

This connects the owl to what we imagine is a barn structure. There are bright yellow slides – the low variety – that kids can slide down on.

Other play equipment at this part of the Kim Keat Ripples playground include a mini-merry-go-round and a low hammock swing.

There is also a see-saw that sit multiple kids at a time.

Alligator Playground

Alligator Playground

The owl playground is not the only play area at Kim Keat Ripples. Just a short distance away, there is another playground in between Blocks 268 and 270A.

Green is the predominant colour at this Kim Keat Ripples playground. The main play feature here is a long tunnel created by cargo nets that provide plenty of climbing opportunities.

The cargo net tunnel is created by a series of frames, ranging from large to small. Taking a step back, you will notice at one end of the tunnel, there is a rubber mound with a tunnel going through it – this looks like the head of an alligator, complete with a snout! The entire play tunnel looks like a green alligator.

Other features that can be found at this section of the playground include climbing discs.

platform with a slide

There is also a platform with a slide that kids can climb up onto.

spinning wheel obstacle equipment

Another feature is spinning wheel obstacle equipment that kids hang off or try to traverse. This is more suitable for older kids who have the upper body strength required to make use of this equipment. Even if they want to swing across it from one side to another, be sure to supervise them. There are only rungs for them to step on at either side of the wheels when they are trying to dismount from the wheels, instead of a full platform. Supervise them to make sure they can dismount safely.

Kim Keat Ripples Playground & What Else is Around

Kim Keat Ripples and its playground are located along Kim Keat Avenue in Toa Payoh East.

If you are looking for other playgrounds nearby, another one that you can check out is the one at Kim Keat Beacon, which has a flying fox that kids can slide around on.
