Golden Chopsticks: Introducing Flavours Inspired by Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan Dishes

Golden Chopsticks: Introducing Flavours Inspired by Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan Dishes

Following Golden Chopsticks’ grand opening at Tampines Century Square last November, it has endeavoured to present a tapestry of the flavours inspired by dishes from Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan regions in China.

CNY 2026: Fun Activities & Things to Do for Families

-- Story continues below --

Yunnan-inspired cuisines aim to tease out the perks of using seasonal ingredients sourced from its abundant landscape, including mushrooms, herbs and tropical fruits. In contrast, cuisines drawn from Guizhou staples feature a distinctive sour and spicy profile, through the use of fermented ingredients such as pickled vegetables, chilli peppers, and aromatic tangy elements. The Sichuan cuisines are framed by the notable fiery tastes and numbness that strike each bite.

The restaurant setting is a physical embodiment of the flavours that it aims to bring out, with earthy tones and sprinkles of plant decorations.

At the same time, the dishes are clearly curated with a Southeast Asian palate in mind, with hints of Southeast Asian influences. The spiciness is moderated such that children could eat most of the spicy dishes.

This is the case for its regular menus as well as the CNY set menus, making it a go-to place for family reunion dinners.

Here are some CNY menu highlights:

Suan Cai Yu Sheng

Suan Cai Yu Sheng

Available for order as à la carte and as part of the set menus, the Suan Cai Yu Sheng (à la carte S$38.80) features pickled mustard greens, alongside crispy shredded taro, sweet potato and a generous serving of salmon slices. Adults and children alike will have a lot of fun taking part in the traditional prosperity toss. We liked the subtle citrus taste to the festive salad, that gave it a refreshing taste.

Except for the Suan Cai Yu Sheng, the exclusive CNY items will not be available à la carte.

Garlic Shrimp with Pumpkin and Vermicelli

Garlic Shrimp with Pumpkin and Vermicelli

Served in a claypot, the vermicelli is matched with creamy pumpkin sauce and a thick layer of garlic and a sizeable portion of shrimps.

While the vermicelli soaked in the richness of the sauce and garlicky flavours, the shrimps paled in comparison. We had expected rich, fresh and aromatic flavours, but were disappointed. However, we appreciated the flavour-packed vermicelli and portions.

Jasmine-Smoked Chicken with Lemongrass

Jasmine-Smoked Chicken with Lemongrass

The tea-smoked chicken is infused with the floral scent of fragrant jasmine flowers with the lemongrass lending it a Southeast Asian with a subtle infusion of citrusy notes from the lemongrass.

The meat had a lightly smoky flavour, but was a tad too dry for our liking. The skin was crispy and we enjoyed that in a similar fashion to eating a roasted Peking Duck.

Pork Rib & Chinese Lotus Root Soup

The Pork Rib & Chinese Lotus Root Soup is a comforting and heartwarming member of the CNY menu. Crisp lotus roots, tender pork ribs, and ingredients like dried longans and goji berries are slow-simmered into a wholesome broth.

The delicate sweetness from the lotus root and hint of earthiness from the pork ribs brought back memories of home-cooked meals by our grandparents. The careful balance of flavours and textures in the broth made it a dish that was not only satisfying but and would also likely bring warmth to family reunion meals.

The CNY set menus are available for group sizes of 4, 6, or 8 persons, from S$158 onwards. All of the set menus include the Suan Cai Yu Sheng.

Other Items in its Regular Menu

Beyond the CNY menu, Golden Chopsticks caters a regular menu that includes crowd favourites such as the Crispy Rice with Rose Pickled Mustard and Pork which introduces diners to the rose pickled mustard stems of Yunnan, and the Mint Garlic Pork Ribs.
