With Teachers’ Day 2020 in Singapore approaching, teachers are put in the spotlight annually and we thank them for their love and patience for our children. It is challenging to manage 20 to 40 heads per class every day. If we find weekends or HBL days unbearable attempting to teach our own children, imagine the difficulty in imparting knowledge to a much bigger group of children.

Teachers’ Day 2020 in Singapore

This year, let us affirm and encourage our teachers with our words if not with gifts. Both ECDA (Early Childhood Development Agency) and Ministry of Education (MOE) and have launched online platforms to thank educators.

ECDA has done a video featuring preschoolers  and parents talking about how amazing their teachers are – from stopping tears, to lightning fast toilet visits and protecting the them from nasty viruses. We love how frank the children were, and it says it all when they deem their teachers superheros.

For Teachers’ Day 2020 in Singapore, thank the preschool teachers by simply leaving a comment on the video and tagging them on it. Words of affirmation go a long way in encouraging the teachers. This year has been particularly hard on the teachers, who have to resort to Zoom and video calls for lessons, as well as keeping up with the health and safety protocols amidst COVID-19. Apart from ensuring cleanliness and germ-free classrooms as well as teaching materials, teachers have to actively ensure children are safe distancing and not intermingling.

Cher” is a uniquely Singaporean way of calling the teachers, in a slightly affectionate way. The site – thankyoucher.edu.sg was launched to encourage students to post thank you notes instead of purchasing gifts.

Thankyoucher site includes a video that offers some perspectives gained in the last couple of months. This video pretty much sums up how parents felt during home-based learning, who have gotten a taste of what it is like being a teacher. Most would agree that the shoes of the teacher are hard to fill especially after the two months of circuit breaker. I definitely felt really relieved when school resumed.

To leave a message for Teachers’ Day 2020 in Singapore, simply type your thoughts and praises and then select the school your child goes to. For older children, you can even encourage them to write their own messages.

It’s lovely to see various messages dotting the map, and for a time of solidarity in thanking our teachers – a oft under-appreciated and overworked segment of our population.

Thank you all Educators and School Staff for All You Do

Imagine a world without schools. We can be glad there are safe places for our children to learn and play in, thanks to the educators and the team of administrators in schools. Let’s be appreciative, and support them in their efforts. After all, it takes a village to educate our children.

Happy Teachers’ Day 2020 to all educators!
