Priding themselves in honest Asian cuisine served with a hint of nostalgia, Fat Chap’s 6-course Chinese New Year menu 2020 (S$48++ per pax, minimum 4 to dine) brings back all the memories of dinners at grandma’s with some twists and without the washing up after.
‘Taro-bly’ Adorable Taro-Taro Yu Sheng
Begin the Chinese New Year Feast with this ‘Taro-bly’ adorable Taro-Taro Yu Sheng (Medium $38.80++, Large $48.80++). More than just beautiful presentation, this dish is surrounded with the sweet flavours of Spring from fruits such as mangoes, strawberries and passion fruit, alongside toasted sliced almonds, crushed peanuts and sunflower seeds which closes the yusheng in a full circle, symbolizing a fruitful reunion. We really enjoyed this yusheng’s light taste, which is always welcomed after the other rich foods that are consumed during this festive season. The crispy taro chips also gave it, even more, texture and crunch.
Fat Chap’s Chinese New Year Menu 2020
Whet your appetite with snacks such as Hae Bi Hiam, Fat Chap Homemade Bak Kwa and “Bang Bang” Sichuan Pickled Cucumber. The Homemade Bak Kwa was served in generous thick slices and the pickled cucumber had a hint of heat to fire up your taste buds for the next course.
The Double Boiled Fortune Chicken Soup was one of our favourite dishes on the menu. You can choose to enjoy the chicken with the fragrant and sweet herbal broth and then bite into the super tender meat after dipping it in sauce.
There are two meats served as part of the main course: Balsamic Braised Pork Belly and Thai Style Fried Golden Snapper. The Pork will be a favourite among those who enjoy rich flavours. Served with chestnut and pork crackling is a piquant main to satisfy diners who enjoy stronger flavours, while those who want to opt for a lighter option can go for the fish served on nests on delectable fried beancurd and Chinese-Thai umami sauce. Fill up your tummies with the Treasure in a Lotus Leaf, made with a trove of Hokkaido rice, XO Chinese sausage and crispy ebi.
Finish off with this trendy dessert: Chrysanthemum Tea Rain Drop Cake. It’s a myriad of textures if you were to eat a mouthful of all the ingredients at once. It is filled with goji berry and white fungus served with a white peach and jasmine sorbet topped drizzles of chrysanthemum honey.
