Read! Fest 2019 encourages everyone to pick up the written word and read more, read widely and read together. First launched three years ago, Read! Fest takes place from 22 June to 28 July 2019 this year.
Read! Fest 2019’s theme revolves around the Singapore narrative with the theme Voyage. It reflects on Singapore literature past and present, and the Singapore story.
Here are five interesting things to know about Read! Fest 2019.
1. Big Book Giveaway
A Big Book Giveaway will be held on 29 June, 11.30 am to 5.30 pm, at Our Tampines Hub and 27 July, 12 pm to 7.30 pm, at Plaza Singapura. Participants will be given five minutes to choose books from the selection available. Books are available on a first-come-first-served basis, while stocks last. Find out more here.
2. Read for Books Charity Drive
From 13 to 28 July, participate in Read for Books, a charity book drive. Get together with your friends and read for 15 minutes and help to place books into the reading corners of family service centres and the libraries of special schools. For every 10 people who read for 15 minutes, one book will be donated. Find out more about how you can participate here.
3. Read! Fest 2019 Activities Around the Island
Bringing the books to you are Read! Fest Pop-ups. Between 1 to 25 July, look out for Read Fest Pop-ups and its selection of pre-loved book at locations such as Compass One Mall, Hotel Jen Orchardgateway Singapore and Woodlands Galaxy CC.

There will also be activities such as Read! Fest Goes to SAFRA Jurong and Read! Fest Goes to Shark Week with special reading corners and storytelling experiences. Find out more here.
4. National Reading Challenge
For 10 weeks, starting from 1 July 2019, borrow a book or eBook from the National Library to get lucky draw chances to win attractive prizes! The first prize is a pair of Singapore Airlines Economy Class Tickets to Brisbane! Get more information here.
5. Read! Fest Goes to Plaza Singapura
On 27 July, Read! Fest 2019 will celebrate the joys of reading at Plaza Singapura. There will be games, roving mascots and literary performances. Take part in Read! Fest GO, a mall-wide reading challenge with attractive rewards, catch the Junior Reading Ambassadors at the Plaza Singapura Family Lounge and follow the Piper of Plaza Sing – a twist on the Pied Piper of Hamelin.
