Woodlands Town Park East is one of those rare parks that you can find within a housing neighbourhood. Not only does it occupy a hill, but it is home to one of the most picturesque community gardens that you can find – the Woodlands Botanical Garden.
Woodlands Town Park East
Built in the 1970s, Woodlands Town Park East is a tranquil park that offers a mix of gentle slopes with walking path along with lush greenery.
The standout feature of the park is its 30-metre-hill, the height of a 10-storey HDB block. The walking paths that lead up the hill start from different sides of the park. The paths that lead up the gradual ascent are lined with boulders – giving it a unique look.

It is a great place to clock in your steps and get your heart rate up.
The park’s network of trails take you through sections of secondary forest. The flora also attract fauna such as butterflies, which can be found fluttering around the verdant surroundings.
Keep an eye out for other creatures – such as this spider that we spotted, tending to its gigantic web that stretched across one of the paths.
The park is also home to rubber trees. As you walk around, you may even be able to spot rubber seeds on the ground.
At the top of the ascent, there is a sizeable open area along with a fitness station with equipment for a workout.
The other pay off at the top is the view – you won’t even have realised that you have up more than nine storeys until you get a view of the surrounding housing blocks.
Woodlands Botanical Garden
The other thing that makes Woodlands Town Park East extra special is the Woodlands Botanical Garden.
This delightful surprise can be found found at the northwestern side of the park.
This is a community garden that transforms its patch of the hillside into a vibrant tapestry of colour and texture. The Woodlands Botanical Garden is a grassroots driven garden and has its origins in the COVID-19 pandemic.
It began as a collaboration between NParks and Mr Ganesh Kumar in July 2020 when the permission was given to plant and beautify the northern slope of Woodlands Town Park East.
Now, you can take a walk through the Woodlands Botanical Garden at the hill top where there are even decorations such as giant bird cages and trellises that beautify the garden.
The impact of the Woodlands Botanical Garden has also spread down the hill with the steps on the northern slope of the park having been planted with bright and colourful plants and flowers.
You can try to spot flowers such as Blue Bluebells, Dark Pink Brazilian Jasmine, Yellow Cape Honeysuckle and many others when you pay a visit.
There is also a children’s playground at the foot of the hill, at the northern side of the park.
