What comes after the extinction of a species? Immerse yourselves in an epic trek that spans 400 million years at Dinosaurs | Extinction | Us at Science Centre Singapore to find out before it closes 23 March 2026.
Surprises at Every Stage at Dinosaurs | Extinction | Us
Presented by Science Centre Singapore and Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum, Dinosaurs | Extinction | Us will take you on a journey across the five different extinction periods in a showcase that uncovers life forms from millions of years ago.
Meet “Scotty”, the largest Tyrannosaurus rex ever found and take a stroll under the 40-metre-long, breath-taking Patagotitan, the largest ever found to date. How big did the ancestors of cockroaches grow up to when undisturbed by humans?
With interactive corners mixed in with huge overhead displays, interspersed with tall information columns, personally, the way that the exhibition was organised was a win for us.
Distinct tones and shades separated each section, crustaceans, marine and land animals progressively revealed. There was certainly a surprise at every turn.
Something for Every Learner
My 10-year-old, armed with her camera and sketchpad, loved the many photo opportunities and hands-on art-based activities throughout the gallery.
We grabbed an exhibition postcard on our way in and collected stamps to create a unique landscape of the prehistoric world. It was an unforgettable souvenir that the kids then posted to their grandma after a visit to the exhibition.
Children can also try the interactive dinosaur tracing and shading stations. This is a chance for them to bring home a dinosaur – sketched and designed by them!
My 7-year-old visual learner loved the video narrated by David Attenborough. It told the amazing journey of the palaeontologists who stumbled upon the Pantagotitan and their shock upon hearing the animal’s preliminary measurements based on the 3D rendering. He was especially amused when Mr Attenborough himself walked the desert dunes and got to see dinosaur eggshells exposed by erosion.
Tactile learners will be treated to an array of “touch” exhibits – skin replicas, bones, shells and more – at hands-on areas throughout Dinosaurs | Extinction | Us.
The 4-year-old was not to be outdone by her more ‘learned’ siblings. She thoroughly enjoyed the low glass displays and copying the skeleton poses. She especially had a lot of fun at the dinosaur dig pit. At this add-on paid experience, she got to enter a large sand pit and dig for dinosaur shapes in order to redeem a gachapon reward.
Dinosaurs | Extinction | Us is truly an exhibition that caters to kids of all ages – there is something to engage for everyone!
Sober and Significant
Beyond being blown away by the insane proportions of the dinosaur fossils on display, the Dinosaurs | Extinction | Us exhibition at Science Centre Singapore also left us some food for thought.
Taxidermised animals and a photo journal of some recently extinct birds and wildlife served as a heavy reminder of the cost of extinction. To paraphrase David Attenborough’s sobering words – if we do not do all we can to preserve the environment around us, we might be next.
