Who is EQUAL and what is so special about their horses
EQUAL is a non-profit that runs equine-assisted programmes supporting youths-at-risk, persons with disabilities, trauma survivors, and seniors. Their therapy horses — a herd of retired racehorses and miniature horses — play a powerful role in this work.
Horses are highly sensitive animals that naturally mirror human emotions. Their reactions help people understand how their behaviour, body language, and emotional states affect others. This makes them remarkable partners in building emotional awareness, confidence, and trust — and during Christmas at the Stables, you’ll get to witness their gentle magic up close.

Enjoy Hoof-to-Heart Time with the Therapy Horses
The highlight of the celebration is the rare opportunity to connect closely with EQUAL’s therapy horses. Visitors can enjoy stable tours, hands-on horse care or feeding experiences, and meet-and-greet sessions — all offering meaningful, gentle interaction with these incredible animals.
This event is not about horse-riding. It’s about horse-caring, understanding, and appreciating the emotional sensitivity and healing presence these animals bring. Get up close, brush a mane, share a carrot, and watch how these horses react to your kindness — it’s an unforgettable experience.

Why EQUAL Needs Support — Caring for Horses, One Hoof at a Time
EQUAL owns a herd of retired race and miniature horses. While miniature horses make therapy work more “portable”, racehorses are often donations.
Racehorses peak at 4–5 years old, and most retire before age 10, even though a healthy horse can live up to 30 years. While some stronger retirees are sold overseas to continue racing, others are rehomed or some, even euthanised.
While EQUAL tries to care for as many of them as possible and they are not the only stable in Singapore, the number of retiring horses far outnumbers the places available for safe, long-term care.
By giving these horses a home and a therapeutic role, EQUAL provides them with dignity, stability, and purpose. However, caring for them is a lifelong and resource-intensive commitment. Feed, healthcare, shelter, equipment, enrichment, and trained caregivers all require significant funding.
Events like Christmas at the Stables make this work possible.
