We paid a visit to AMGD Superfood Restaurant for lunch.
Cheery colours and cute characters decorate the entrance to AMGD Superfood Restaurant. Entering into the restaurant, we found ourselves in a minimalist setting with relaxing jazz music playing away in the background.
The restaurant is a social enterprise venture by the AMGD brand. AMGD stands for Ahhmahgawd and it is a Singapore healthy food delivery company that started in 2016.
The brand offers a menu curated by a team of chefs, dieticians and nutritionists. AMGD subscribers can get healthy food delivered to the doorstep.
The AMGD Superfood Restaurant at Enabling Village is a physical restaurant that serves up the same healthy food options that will leave you feeling good after the meal.
Healthy Eating
Once we were seated at the table, something we immediately noticed was the emphasis on healthy meals and focus on helping diners choose healthier options.
Diners here can choose a “vibe” and match a meal to go with their mood.
Meal options include the Heritage Series – local favourites reimagined with wholesome ingredients, AMGD Signatures which are balanced meals that are customer favourites, and the Glow Series, inspired by Korean skincare science.
Other categories of meals included Athletes and Sports for recovery and performance, and the Blue Zone Series, tailored to longevity and vitality.
Next to each items listed on the menu was one of the above categories, reflecting the thought that had gone into the designing of the dish.
There are also heart symbols next to each item. The greater the number of hearts, the healthier dish.
If that all seems like too much information for you, don’t worry. You can just select from the usual categories like All-day Breakfast, Seafood, Chicken, Beef and so on too.
There are dishes like Chic ‘n Buona-ra! ($14.90) – a light carbonara dish, Orchid Dream ($18.90), a beef bulgogi and more.
Food and Dining at AMGD Enabling Village
We ordered Katong Noon ($16.90) and Sliced Barramundi Fish Soup ($13.90) from the menu.
Katong Noon consists of Thai grilled chicken, spicy rice and mesclun greens htat are high in protein and fibre. It is a dish that belongs in the Heritage Series and is also a Strength Booster.
The chicken had a nice flavour to it. The rice did not seem very spicy; it tasted rather light and balanced out the chicken. The Katong Noon came with a saucer of sauce that we could use to flavour the food to taste. We were also pleasantly surprised by the amount of greens that came as part of the plate. We guess that is all part of healthy eating!
The Sliced Barramundi Fish Soup featured tender fish pieces. The use of barramundi was a nice twist to the usual variety of fish used in this dish. We enjoyed the the lightness of the clear, herb-infused soup and with the greens and bee hoon, it felt like a well balanced meal without too many carbs.
In terms of drinks, we tried the signature Honeycomb Coffee ($6.90) as well as the iced Honey Ginger Drink ($3), which was a refreshing beverage.
The drinks fall under the Beehiiv Barista brand which is co-located at the restaurant.
For dessert, we had the Zero-sugar Dark Chocolate Tiramisu ($10).
CZ Bakery, which sells healthy bakes that make use of monkfruit and nuts, also has a counter on the premises.
We are not sure if it was the placebo effect or something else, but we did feel good and as if we had had a more balanced meal at AMGD Superfood.
Social Mission
In addition to serving up healthy food, AMGD Superfood Restaurant also provides employment opportunities for those with special needs.
The friendly folks working there made lunch an enjoyable experience.
There is also a corner where you can pay $5 and get access to various board games – this makes AMGD Superfood at Enabling Village a spot that you can consider visiting if you want a laid back place to hang out with friends.
