Do you know the difference between surnames and clan names in Chinese naming convention? What is the relationship between anthroponymy (the study of human names), linguistics, and phonetics? And are Chinese naming systems mere superstition, or a science on its own?

Dr Kang Ger-Wen, head of Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s Chinese Studies, will share some interesting stories and shed some light on Chinese tradition and the art of naming.

This session will involve hands-on activities. Participants are advised to bring a pen and some paper.
