Welcome in the Year of the Rat at Gardens by the Bay Spring Surprise 2020. Stretching from 27 Jan to 9 Feb 2020, this Lunar New Year celebration features free family-friendly shows, exciting festive performances and more.

Here are five highlights that will get you into the Chinese New Year mood at Gardens by the Bay Spring Surprise 2020.


1. Golden Pyro Dragon Dance

Golden Pyro Dragon DanceCatch the spectacular sight of a golden dragon dancing about under a shower of fiery sparks. Performed by local troupe Tian Eng Dragon & Lion Dance Centre, the Golden Pyro Dragon Dance features a 14-metre long dragon and cold pyrotechnics.

Dragon DanceDon’t miss the sparkling performance at Gardens by the Bay Spring Surprise which will be held at the Supertree Grove from 31 Jan to 2 Feb 2020.

2. The Story of Nian

The Story of NianPuppetry, music and drama come together for a mesmerising re-telling of The Story of Nian.

Spring Surprise 2020 Gardens by the BayOver two weekends, the tale of a village which acts together to repel the scary monster Nian will be told under the Supertrees. Be sure to catch this entertaining show by Dick Lee Asia.

1 to 2 Feb, 5 pm, 6.15 pm & 9.30 pm

7 to 9 Feb, 7 pm, 8 pm & 9 pm

3. The Zodiac Race

Dahlia Dreams 2020Visit the Flower Dome and you can not only enjoy the beauty of the Dahlia Dreams 2020 flower display but a shadow puppet performance of The Zodiac Race on selected dates in February. Did you know that the rat was the first animal to finish the zodiac race? Find out the story behind the “tail”.

When: 1, 2, 8, 9 Feb, 3 pm & 5 pm

4. Zodiac Tangram

Take part in weekend workshops to make your own mini tangram. You can also test out your problem-solving skills by tackling zodiac-themed tangram puzzles.

27 Jan to 9 Feb, from 12 pm to 6 pm

Workshops will be held on 1, 2, 8 & 9 Feb, 12 pm to 6 pm

5. Performances to Celebrate Chinese New Year at Gardens by the Bay

Performances at Spring Surprise 2020Soak in the festive spirit with free performances taking place during Gardens by the Bay Spring Surprise 2020. Watch exciting wushu displays or listen to the musical notes of the Ding Yi Music Company and other performers at the Supertree Grove.
