The Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival 2019 celebrates Singapore’s UNESCO World Heritage Site’s 160th anniversary with activities over two weekends in July 2019. Pay a visit to the gardens on 13, 14, 20 and 21 July 2019 to enjoy a variety of programmes that will put you back in touch with nature.

These are some activities you can look forward to at Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival 2019.

1. Visit the new Singapore Botanic Gardens Seed Bank

Singapore Botanic Gardens Seed BankStop by Singapore’s first Seed Bank and learn what is being done to help conserve and safeguard Southeast Asia’s biodiversity.

Seeds being processed in the lab at the Singapore Botanic Gardens Seed Bank.Join a tour of the interpretive galleries (every hour from 1 pm to 5 pm on 13 July, and 9 am to 5 pm on 14, 20 and 21 July) from and about how seeds are spread about at the Seed Dispersal Garden.

2. Take Part in the Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Challenge

Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage ChallengeExplore Singapore Botanic Gardens as part of the Heritage Challenge and stand to redeem a Limited Edition Seed Pack Prize. Pick up the Heritage Festival Challenge sheet from any Visitor Service Counter or download it online. Visit designated spots around the Gardens (including the newly opened Singapore Botanic Gardens Seed Bank), complete the set tasks to redeem a pack of seeds. You can also enter a lucky draw with vouchers to one Michelin star Corner House to be won.

3. Family-friendly Activities at the Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival 2019

Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival Activity BoothsHead down to Orchid Plaza in front of National Orchid Garden to enjoy various activity and game booths.

Craft activityOn 13 July, 10 am to 12pm, view the Think! Contemporary Preschool Exhibition 2019 at Nassim Gate Visitor Service Counter and then make a tree or flower sculpture using cardboard templates.

Be a Seed Protector ExhibitionThe Centre for Education and Outreach is also holding a Be A Seed Protector exhibition along with creative drama sessions and talks. Registration is encouraged as spaces are limited.

4. Special Activities at Singapore Botanic Garden’s Tenants

Head down to Fusion Spoon for Chocolate Cupcake Baking Sessions (13 July, 10 am to 1 pm, 2 pm to 5 pm; 20 July, 10 am to 1 pm, 4 pm to 7 pm, limited to 15 children per session, suitable for children 6 to 12 years old, registration is encouraged at 62555110 or 81239555).

Over at the Cluny Food Hall (the former Canopy food court), kids can request for a free activity Match the Seeds sheet from the drinks stall to learn what the seeds from different fruit look like.

Food For Tots is also running a Seeds in a Bag Programme on 20 July, 11 am (suitable for kids 4 years and above, 8 slots only) and there is a colouring activity station for kids at Bee’s Knees at The Garage.

5. Go on a Tour to Uncover the Hidden Stories of the Gardens

11 SBG Heritage Festival 2019Guided tours will be conducted over the four days of the Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival 2019. Join a tour to discover fascinating insights into the 6-hectare Rain Forest in the Gardens, home to more than 300 plant species. Embark on a Heritage Tour from the Tanglin Gate Visitor Service Counter to learn about historic buildings such as Holttum Hall and Ridley Hall, or the role the Gardens played in the promotion of cash crops. 6. Concerts and Movie Screenings in the Evenings

Generic Shaw Foundation Symphony StageAttend an outdoor concert - Shaw Foundation StageEnjoy music at the Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage in the evenings of 13, 14, 20 and 21 July as part of Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival 2019. The Jazz Association Singapore Orchestra, led by Jeremy Monteiro, will take to the stage on Saturday, 13 July, followed by MICappella on the next day. The following weekend, 20 and 21 July will see the Youth4Climate Concert and Symphony in the Gardens: The Straits Times Concert at the Gardens.

Eco Lake will be the venue for outdoor movie screenings in the evening of 13, 19, 20 and 21 July too. Get full details here.

7. Free Admission to National Orchid Garden

National Orchid Garden, SingaporeSingaporeans, Permanent Residents, Student Pass and Work Permit Holders get to enjoy free admission to National Orchid Garden from 13 to 21 July. Be sure to pop by the Heritage Festival Activity and Food Booths after at the Orchid Plaza after your visit.
