Big Wooden Horse’s stage adaptation of award-winning author Oliver Jeffers’ The Way Back Home makes its way to Singapore from 27 to 29 September 2019 at the SOTA Drama Theatre.

Presented by DIVA Productions, The Way Back Home is a colourful, imaginative, and enduring tale about a young boy who – after finding a plane in his cupboard – flies it until he runs out of petrol, and crash lands on the moon.

Frightened, lost, and alone, the boy befriends a passing Martian who also lands on the moon! Can they truly be friends? And how will they find their way back home?

Perfect for children ages 3 and up, this stage version of Oliver Jeffers’ inter-galactic tale is full of imaginative sequences that will take the audience on the two friends’ quest to find fuel and tools to fix their aircraft, in a bid to get themselves home.

Imaginatively Out Of This World

Actor playing a pilotWith writer and director Adam Bampton-Smith at the helm, you can expect a stage production of imaginative proportions!

Featuring original music and nicely tuned lyrical singing which evokes the otherworldliness of flight, The Way Back Home is well-paced and packed with a ton of theatrical variety guaranteed to keep a young audience enthralled.

There’s a zippy dance number that will have your little ones on their feet, the clever use of props throughout the show and even scenes in which the audience mimic sounds or yell out suggestions to help solve the characters’ predicaments.

From the Bedroom to the Stars

Stage Set of The Way Back HomeAnother highlight of this production is the thoughtfully minimal, yet ingenious set which starts off looking like your typical bedroom. As the show progresses, so does the set which transforms into the sky, space, and even the sea.

Be prepared for some cute on-stage surprises – think everyday knick-knacks jumping out of the bedroom’s cupboards and drawers! We’re pretty sure this will elicit lots of oohs, aahs, and giggles from young and old alike.

The Way Back Home is reflective of how children use their imagination to create fantastical worlds for themselves. Ultimately, at the heart of it, it is a story about friendship – a theme that is sure to resonate with children of all ages.
