A massive aquarium located within the two basements of the Siam Paragon mega mall, Sea Life Bangkok Ocean World offers an opportunity to view a diverse variety of aquatic life from different parts of the world in a convenient location in Thailand’s capital.
We had booked a fixed date Admission Ticket Package for Four with Glass Bottom Boat Ride through Klook, which offers discounted combo deals. After booking the tickets, all we had to do was flash the Klook e-voucher at the information counter from our mobile device to exchange for physical tickets and, voila!, entry into the aquarium grounds was a breeze, bypassing the ticket queues.
Filled with plenty of interesting things for the kids to see and experience, we easily spent three hours exploring Sea Life Bangkok Ocean World.
The aquarium’s vast space had plenty of visual aquatic spectacles organised into different zones.
At the Rocky Hideout, we had fun spying out the cunningly camouflaged residents among the rocks – the Giant Spider Crab and the Giant Pacific Octopus.
Shark Walk and Shark Shipwreck
Fancy sharks of different species and sizes swimming slowly and menacingly beneath your feet? Try out Sea Life Bangkok’s Shark Wall’s glass floor.
There are interactive and informative panels on shark life! For example, a fun fact we learnt was that the Sand Tiger Shark grows more than 30,000 teeth in its lifetime of 15 years, and it can grow more than 300 centimetres in length!
Glass-bottom Boat Ride
One of the most thrilling experiences at Sea Life Bangkok was the ride in the Glass-bottom Boat. Sinister-looking but docile Sand Tiger Sharks with razor sharp teeth and giant stingrays glided up through the water to the surface, just beneath our feet.
The glass-bottom window of the boat gave us an amazing view of the marine life and the kids enjoyed this unique experience tremendously.
Coral Reef and Seahorse Kingdom
Colourful corals and luscious seaweed fronds provided refuge for its more reclusive underwater inhabitants to peek out. The kids were wowed by the beautiful seahorse species. We also learnt that, amazingly, the male seahorses are the ones that carry the babies!
The next zone at Sea Life Bangkok surprised us – it was a tropical rainforest! We got to explore the rainforest area, filled with lush foliage, and saw pythons, boa constrictors and night-coloured frogs in tanks. There were also freshwater fish such as ferocious, shimmering red-hued arowanas.
The highlight of this Sea Life Bangkok zone was when we encountered a pair of dancing otters who kept shaking their bottoms at us! Their antics got the kids laughing to no end.
Rockpool and Rocky Shore
Starfish and Hermit Crab in the rock pools were a pretty sight to behold!
My kids were also super excited to take a closer look at the humongous Green Sea Turtles and enjoyed watching them chase after playful stingrays. We spent quite some time waving at the turtles who swam up to visitors and waved back!
Tropical Ocean and Ocean Tunnel
The massive and smaller glass enclosures presented a kaleidoscope of rich hues and the patterned textures of marine life. The kids could enter small glass tunnels for nose-to-nose encounters with vivid Blue Tangs as well as Puffer, Clown, Lion and Angel Fish.
The huge Ocean Tunnels were, as usual, crowd favourites for photo shots, providing the opportunity to capture the wonderfully surreal moment of ocean life swimming all around us!
Penguin Ice Adventures
Exchanging high fives with friendly white-striped Gentoo Penguins with their bright orange-red beaks and pink-lidded Jackass (African) Penguins was a real treat for the entire family! The Gentoos are speedy divers and swimmers and we could have viewed them all day through the glass enclosures as they were constantly on the move!
Life at Sea Life Park Bangkok
During daily feeding times at Sea Life Bangkok, knowledgeable presenters provide fascinating information on aquatic creatures and ocean life.
Consistent with the Sea Life global aquarium brand, managed by Merlin Entertainments Group Ltd, Sea Life Bangkok’s marine experts are dedicated to the mission of conserving marine life. Educational notes graced the walls of the different zones of the aquarium in line with its global Breed, Rescue, Protect programme which supports events such as Shark Week and Turtle Fest to raise awareness of marine conservation issues.
We picked up fascinating facts (as well as stuffed toys from the well-stocked souvenir shop at the exit) on marine creatures, learning about spotted stingrays and other different species of fish.
The visit to Sea Life Bangkok was a lovely afternoon well-spent on a fun-filled underwater adventure that the entire family enjoyed.
