The Little Village Brick Book: Making Preschool Learning Fun One Brick at a Time

A result of seven months of planning, The Brick Book is a collaboration between local Singapore preschool Little Village and global creative agency Geometry Global. The preschool learning kit is based on LEGO bricks and is being used in support of early childhood education both locally and with less advantaged communities in Myanmar.

Brick Book of Fun and Learning

Relying on public donations, Little Village and Geometry Global collected over 8,000 Lego bricks to create Brick Books Learning Kits.

The Brick Books Learning Kits consists of LEGO bricks, specially formulated games and teaching guides that can be used to impart skills such as problem-solving and basic mathematical concepts.

It contains a total of six games that teach and reinforce simple mathematical concepts such as spatial awareness, pattern recognition, addition, subtraction, and multiplication.

Using LEGO bricks, the Brick Book promotes learning through play. This approach aims to nurture the love of learning from a young age.

Preschool Learning

More than 20 Brick Books have been shared with 100 students in Myanmar.

In addition to being used in Myanmar, teachers at Little Village are also making use of The Brick Book to make learning fun and to gamify the classroom.

Ms. Vicki Teo, Executive Director for Little Village Pre-School, said, “Our teaching philosophy at the Little Village is centred around meaningful learning for our children, we place children at the heart of our curriculum. We want our children to not only be equipped with the necessary knowledge and understanding of concepts, but we want them to do so in a manner that is fun, to inculcate the love of learning from young through play. The Brick Book is a tool that allows us to do so, where children use everyday toys that they are familiar with like Lego bricks, to play and in the process, learn.”

For the next round of development, The Little Village and Geometry Global are hoping to continue sharing The Brick Book with overseas communities. They will be calling for public donations of unwanted LEGO bricks for this purpose. Further updates will be done through The Little Village’s Facebook page.
