As part of Singapore Heritage Festival 2017, the Caldecott Broadcast Centre will be open to the public this weekend (and next). You can visit its film studios, walk along back lots and enjoy the myriad of performances and activities that have been organised for the weekend. There will even be a flea market taking place within the grounds of the Caldecott Broadcast Centre. Drop-In at National Gallery Singapore

RooftopVisit the National Gallery Singapore and help little ones gain an appreciation for the labour of love that is art. On 29 and 30 April, pick up an activity sheet from the Keppel Centre for Art Education and explore the world of Chinese ink masters through the ages. From 1 May, children can learn how labourers are depicted in art with new activity sheet for the month of May. The drop-in activity is suitable for ages four and up.

Car-Free Sunday

Enjoy the Playground at Esplanade Park on Labour Day 2017Head over to the Civic District on Sunday to enjoy outdoor activities as a family. ActiveSG will be present at Car-Free Sunday, providing both children and parents the chance to try out sporting activities such as tennis at miniature tennis courts, archery and pickelball. What’s more, kids can have a go at the bell wall, slide and swings at the Esplanade Park playground at Connaught Drive.

Celebrate Singapore’s Oldest Existing Library’s Birthday

Queenstown Public LibraryQueenstown Public Library celebrates 47 years with a day filled with traditional games, quizzes, treasure hunts, storytelling and crafts. On Saturday, 29 April, storytelling and crafts at the library start from 10.30 am (suitable for children between four to six years old). There will be also a movie screening from 4 pm. Be sure to snap a pic at the “birthday girl’s” photo booth where you can pose with fun and quirky props inspired by classic comic book characters.

New Nature Walks

Canopy WebPay a visit to the recently opened Learning Forest at Singapore Botanic Gardens and take in the sights at the Keppel Discovery Wetlands and SPH Walk of Giants. Kids can venture on to the Canopy Web (above) and get close to a tree at mid-level. To get more in-depth commentary about the new Learning Forest, join a complimentary tour taking place on Saturday at 9 am.

Alternatively, head to Upper Thomson and the new Windsor Nature Park where you can try your luck at spotting the Greater Drongo from the boardwalks. If you are feeling adventurous, trek to the 25-metre high suspension bridge at the TreeTop Walk for some breathtaking views of the Central Catchment Nature Reserve.

Watch an Artist at Work

On 29 and 30 April, mural artist Yip Yew Chong will be at the National Museum of Singapore. Yip is the talented artist behind the Thian Hock Keng Mural at Amoy Street. He will be working on a mural based on the National Museum of Singapore’s rich 130 years of history. Watch him paint between 1.30 pm to 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday. You can also view an exhibition of his artworks, Moving Memories, at Gallery 10, the museum’s new digital experimental space on Level 1.

Istana Open House

Istana Open HouseVisit the grounds of the Istana on Labour Day where there will be balloon sculpting, “Learning City” activity booths, and even a display of snakes by the Singapore Zoo. NTUC U Live, SMU Student Club, Singapore Symphony Orchestra and various schools will also be staging performances throughout the day to keep the crowds entertained.
