Best Libraries for Kids in Singapore

Reading Deck

From a library with a treehouse to a nautical-themed one, we round up the best libraries for kids in Singapore.

Victor Hugo once said, “To learn to read is to ignite a flame”.

Books and stories hold the power to expand the mind. Through words on a page, unseen worlds get conjured up and landscapes of imagination get unfurled.

In Singapore, public libraries dot our tiny island. They are well-stocked with books for all ages – from preschoolers to adults – and often host events such as storytellings, performances and workshops too. We love how easy it is to wander into a library and end up getting lost amongst the books for hours.

Best Libraries for Kids in Singapore

While most libraries in Singapore stock a good range of children’s titles (the exceptions being Library@Orchard and Library@Esplandade, which are focused on design and the Arts respectively), here are our choices of some of the best libraries for  kids in Singapore.

Central Public Library

Dubbed My Tree House, the children’s section at the Central Public Library along Victoria Street features a tree house made from recycled materials. Kids get to sit under the tree and ponder through a book from around the library. Read more about the world’s first green library for kids.

As Singapore’s oldest library (ever since the Stamford Road library was torn down), Queenstown Public Library is also Singapore’s first branch library. It is easily recognisable by its distinctive bow-tie motif on its façade. An oldie but goodie, stepping into the library triggers off a quaint and inviting feeling that beckons readers to linger a bit longer.

The library’s basement is devoted to children’s books and it is also where you can find the Early Literacy Library (ELL). The ELL is designed especially for younger kids under six. Books are categorised according to the themes Sense & Sensation, Concepts, Languages, Poetry & Rhymes and Emergent Reader. Cozy corners and provided props help parents bring stories to life for younger ones. Read more about the ELL.
