UP, UP AND AWAY: Embark on a Space Adventure Chinese Camp

Why It Makes a Great Little Day Out:

Because it is by Little Day Out of course! We wanted to create something for families to have some simple fun together during the school holidays. Get your kids to explore familiar places from a new perspective, and nurture your child’s curiosity and observation skills. We remember what fun it was like as kids to receive mail and so we will be sending kids who have completed the Adventure Quest their very own “I’m a Little Day Out Adventurer” badge in the mail too!

2. KidsSTOP

Kids STOP

KidSTOP, the new children’s science centre for kids between 18 months to 8 years old, opens from 6 June 2014. With themed exhibition zones, hands-on activities and exciting enrichment programmes, it is a place where young children can learn about science and the world around them through purposeful play.

Why It Makes a Great Little Day Out:

Young children get to exercise their imagination through play. At KidSTOP, kids can pretend to be pilots, paleontologists, chefs, doctors and even TV stars. The adventurous can take on physics with the massive J-slide and adorable live chicks are back too! It’s not only fun and games, but thought has been put into KidSTOP’s activities to provide a means for kids to discover that Science is fun.

3. Human Body Experience (HBX)

Face

Staying with the Science Centre, explore the fascinating workings of the human body at the Human Body Experience. The exhibition takes visiotrs inside the human anatomy, through organs, muscles and systems, and lets you interact and play with the amazing functions of the body. For older children, at least five years old.

Why It Makes a Great Little Day Out:

The Human Body Experience reminds us of the crazy amusement park funhouses found at fairs overseas. Climbing up the tongue in a 6-metre-tall face to get into the HBX sets the tone for this quirky experience. It is a wonderful chance to have some fun while learning about the human body. We only wished that the experience was even longer. There is nothing else like it in Singapore at the moment.

4. Masak Masak: My Childhood

Bouncy Dragon

Masak Masak, a special exhibition at the National Museum of Singapore, is part of Children’s Season 2014 and centres around the theme of My Childhood. It features familiar playgrounds and larger-than-life games of yesteryear and interactive installations. Do note though that the bouncy castles are only open on weekends till 31 August 2014, from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm and 3.00 pm to 5.00 pm.

Why It Makes a Great Little Day Out:

Bouncy castles in the shape of the iconic Dragon Playground, oversized and re-imagined traditional games such five stones, pick-up-sticks and goli, free crafts for kids can make and bring home. Need we say more?

5. Dinosaurs: Dawn to Extinction

Dinosaurs Dawn

Step back in time and journey through 600 million years with Dinosaurs: Dawn to Extinction. Get transported back in time to discover the dinosaurs’ natural environment and how the different species lived on earth.

Why It Makes a Great Little Day Out:

If you haven’t been to visit this exhibition yet, do so before it ends in July 2014. There is something awe-inspiring about these pre-historic creatures and Dinosaurs: Dawn to Extinction does a good job at telling their story. Make sure that you do not miss the craft activity area at the end of the exhibition where kids can make their own dinosaur crafts to bring home.

6. Sentosa: Storytelling Comes Alive

Storytelling

Little brave hearts can help the fairies from Fairyland search for the missing magical unicorns, and also protect the ancient Land of Zirconia from falling into the hands of the evil dragon and the magician during the interactive storytelling performances. Playmobil fans will be delighted to find a Playmobil café, Playmobil playpit and larger-than-life Playmobil characters at Sentosa’s Storytelling Comes Alive!

Why It Makes a Great Little Day Out:

Enchanting tales of unicorns, dragons and quests combined with larger-than-life Playmobil toys make the island of Sentosa even more magical during the June Holidays. Little ones can even make little tote bags and badges at Little Hands and Minds along Palawan Beach.

7. Trick Eye Museum or Alive Museum Singapore

Baby Cage

Opening on 8 June 2014, visitors to the Trick Eye Museum will journey through six themed zones, titled World of Masterpieces, Safari Kingdom, Stars of Circus, Dreams of Fairytale, Love in Winter, andAdventure Discovery. The Trick Eye museum creates illusions which allow the guests to perceive a three-dimensional object or scene. With a collection of 2D & 3D art and sculptures, the works are specially designed for photo opportunities.

The Alive Museum Singapore has bigger spaces and cover world famous painting and personalities, superheros, animals and action fun. It has digital art and object art which enhances the interactivity.

Read a comparison of the two museums here.

Why Either Makes a Great Little Day Out:

We love taking pictures and we love the quirky. Both museums bring the two together and creates a new way for the entire family to squeeze into some classic masterpieces and create memorable photos!
